Nicole Richie and Joel Madden have traveled the world, partied at exclusive clubs and signed autographs for adoring fans. So what impresses them these days? When daughter Harlow Winter Kate Madden, nearly 3 months old, gives them a grin. “The greatest thing about Harlow right now is that she laughs and smiles a lot,” Joel tells Life & Style. “She wakes up every morning laughing and smiling — and it’s the best part of my day.”

But there are tough new challenges ahead. In late March, Joel left for a Good Charlotte tour that will take him throughout Europe through mid-April. Nicole and Joel can’t wait until he’s back so they can resume their routine. “Nicole’s world is about bottles, diapers and family dinners now,” says the couple’s friend. “Parenthood is the best thing that ever happened to her.”

Meanwhile, are wedding bells in Nicole and Joel's future? The two attended the wedding of Good Charlotte guitarist Billy Martin and longtime girlfriend Linzi Williamson on March 1. During his toast, Joel joked that "[They] beat us on the marriage, but we got you beat on the baby!" And, as Life & Style has reported, the duo have hired a wedding planner who’s scouting locations in LA.

“Nicole and Joel are totally in love,” the couple’s pal, American Idol host Ryan Seacrest, tells Life & Style. And they’ve got Nic’s dad, singer Lionel Richie, behind them. “Lionel says that if Nicole were to take the next step, he would advocate that,” says Ryan.

As if being a brand new mom wasn’t enough, Nicole Richie is adding jewelry designer to her resume! The star tells PEOPLE, “It’s all costume jewelry. I like to play with jewelry and mix and match.” Produced with the company Mouawad (who also does Heidi Klum’s fine jewelry collection), Richie is working with “this really talented woman named Shelley Gibbs. She’s an artist and she sketches everything.” And Richie makes sure to keep baby Harlow at the forefront of her priorites while working on the line. She explains to PEOPLE that “everyone’s been really mellow and able to work around my schedule. If I need to go feed the baby, I do it.” And as busy as she is, Richie’s not stopping at jewelry. We can look forward to her infant and children’s wear lines coming out later this year as well — we even hear whispers of a fragrance from Richie in the not-too-distant future. What does beau Joel Madden think of all of her new projects? He proudly tells PEOPLE, “She’s being modest” about all of her recent achievements.

Nicole Richie is the latest star to turn her attention to fashion, but rather than the usual clothing line, she is setting her sights on jewellery.
The new mum has confirmed that she is working on a fifty-piece collection of jewels, although the range remains unnamed and details of the style have not been released.
The collection is expected to reach stores by autumn 2008, and will be stocked in high end US boutiques such as Kitson and Fred Segal.
At the opening of boyfriend Joel Madden's DCMA Store last week, Richie confirmed her foray into fashion and added, "There are new beginnings all around."
This is so exciting! I am sure that the line will be awesome.
